Project Information:

The Innovation Way Extension project consists of extending the roadway from the new roundabout at Socialville-Fosters Road to Duke Boulevard, with a five-lane section, including an additional double-lane roundabout at the new intersection with Duke Boulevard.

The new roadway includes curb and gutter improvements, storm sewers, a 10’ multiuse path and center medians.

Also as part of this project work, Duke Boulevard will be widened to five lanes from Irwin-Simpson Road to Innovation Way.

Project Benefits:

Local improvements to Innovation Way are a critical component of ensuring safe and efficient access to this growing hub of economic activity in southwest Warren County. Previously, Innovation Way was a three-lane road between Western Row Road and Socialville-Fosters Road.

This project is part of a program of projects that includes work on Columbia Road, Socialville-Fosters Road, Mason-Montgomery Road and the interchange at I-71 and Western Row Road. Infrastructure improvements in southwest Warren County will provide more options for commuters traveling to and from local employment centers and will alleviate congestion along the Fields-Ertel and Mason-Montgomery corridors, supporting the flow of traffic for local drivers.

The role of the Transportation Improvement District is to ensure the infrastructure exists to support economic development, investment and job creation in Warren County. The extension of Innovation Way will support two important economic development outcomes. First, this extension will provide an immediate benefit to existing employers and commuters in the area, including the P&G Mason Business Center, by providing improved access to companies located in this area. This will also help the flow of local traffic on the surrounding local streets. Second, the road will provide infrastructure improvements to support continued investment in our area.

The extension of Innovation Way and the widening of Duke Boulevard, along with the new roundabouts, will help keep traffic moving rather than adding signalized intersections to this area – all of which is vital to the continued economic growth and job creation in this region.

Roundabouts have been recognized for significantly improving safety at high traffic locations because they eliminate the use of traditional traffic signals which allows traffic to move continuously through a given area. Potential conflict points are also eliminated and because traffic is moving at slower speeds, the number and severity of crashes are reduced.
